Echinacea purpurea
About the Plant
Echinacea, also known as purple coneflower, is a hardy perennial treasured for its vibrant blooms and immune-supporting properties. A native wildflower, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, returning year after year with minimal care. Its striking petals also make it a pollinator favorite.
Common Uses
• Herbal teas and tinctures for immune support
• Beautiful cut flowers and pollinator gardens
• Drought-tolerant perennial for naturalized landscapes
How to Plant
Sow seeds ⅛" deep in moist soil. For best germination, cold stratify seeds for 2–4 weeks before planting. Keep the soil lightly moist until germination, which may take 10–20 days. Transplant seedlings or thin direct-sown plants to 12–18" spacing (30–45 cm) once established.
When to Plant
• Indoors: 8–10 weeks before the last frost (with cold stratification)
• Outdoors: After last frost or in fall for natural overwintering
